Abstract |
The plant growth promoting rhizobacteria(PGPR) Bacillus subtilis ,Pseudomonas fluorescence and Serratia sp. were tested for their antifungal activity in vitro against Sclerotium cepivorum, the causing white rot in onion. All the PGPR strains exhibited inhibitory effects towards the development of fungal species in Petri dishes. The strongest antagonism was due to Pseudomonas fluorescence with inhibition zones ranging from 35 to 40 mm. Fungal inhibition test was performed by a plate assay in which each strain was tested directly for production of hydrogen cyanide, protease and siderophore . Field experiments were carried out in Assiut Res. Stat., ARC., during 2010 / 2011 and 2011 / 2012 growing seasons. Root infection percentages progressively raised with untreated plants (63-65%) , the PGPR mixture inoculated plants showed reducing in root infection by 22.0% similar to those treated with faloucolores . Post harvest indicated maximum yield was found in the combination treatment, followed by the agro-chemical faloucolor and individual bacteria inoculation
