RECOMMENDATIONS OF CONTROL SOME DISEASES OF
ONION CROP IN ALGHARBIAH GOVERNORATE

| Abstract |
This research aimed mainly to determine the level of knowledge of respondents of
the farmers with three studied technical recommendations of control diseases of onion
crop, to Identify their information sources which they receave their knowledge to
control these diseases, to identify the problems which face them in control diseases of
onions from their boint of view, and to suggest a work plan of extension program to
rals with control of deseaaes of onion crop wick studied in the area of research.
This research was conducted in Algharbiah governorate as one of the greatest
Governorates in Law Egypt in cultivation of onion, three districts were selected
randomly from the destricts which cultivate the onion crop in the governorate,
followed by selected one village randomly from the villages cultivate onions in each
destrict ,these villages are: Konayset Demsheet in Tanta destrict, Boreej in Kotoor
destrict, and Albanwan in Almahala Alkobra destrict, data were collected through the
personal interview questionnaire from regular random sample amounted to 320
respondents according to equation of ( krejcie & Morgan ) of the onion farmers in the
three villages sudied during the month of march 2015, freqiencies , percentages
,arethmatic mean, and sander deviation, were used in analysis of data statistically.
The most important results of the research were as follows:
1- It was cleared that low-level of knowledge of the respondents of the farmers with
technical recommendations to defeat diseases of maid White House, walltaiah
purple, and mold neck of onion crop, where all respondents came in the categories
of low-level and medium with percentages amounted to 85 %, 75 %, and 81 %
respectively.
2- It was noticed that the most important sources of information, from which the
farmers respondents received their knowledge to control diseases of Mold White
House, purple spot, and neck mold of the .onion's crop was arranged from top to
down as follows: Personal Experience, dealers of agricultural inputs, parents and
relatives, friends and neighbors, the agricultural extensionists, extension meetings,
extension panels, followed by technical bulletins, and finaly .the agricultural
television programs.
3- The most important problems facing respondents farmers in control diseases of
onion's crop from their point of view can be ranged from top to down as follows:
Rise of agricultural pesticides (94.4%) , unavailability of agricultural pesticides in
agricultural associations with reasonable prices (89.1 %), lack of number of
agricultural extensionists in the field of onion crop (85%), lack of number of
specialists of control of onion crop (82.2%), lack of knowledge of farmers with
symptoms of infection of onion disease (78.1 %).
