Abstract |
This study aims to evaluate the effect of treated soybean meal with different levels of condensed tannins (quebracho tannins, QT; Unitan, Argentina) on Zaraibi dairy goats and their offspring performance. It was treated with five levels of tannin (0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 %) of dry matter. An in situ experiment was conducted to study the effect of treatment on the rate of disappearance of DM, OM and CP. Using a pair of cannulated buffalo mature bulls where animals were fed on clover hay by 1/3 of the daily requirements of animal while giving concentrate feed rate of 2/3 animal requirements. According to the results of the in situ degradation trial, two better CFM's in addition to the control one were fed to twenty four Zaraibi does (BW 51.5± 1.75 Kg). They were randomly divided into three similar groups (8 does/ each) where the control group (R0) fed 60% CFM contained untreated soybean and 40% rice straw. The two tested groups fed 60% CFM contained treated soybean meal by quebracho tannin (QT) at the rate of 1 and 2% plus 40% rice straw (R1 and R2, respectively) on DM basis for all rations. Nutrients requirements were calculated according to NRC (1994). Digestibility trails were conducted to estimate the digestibility and feeding values of the experimental rations using acid insoluble ash technique. Results indicated that in situ degradability of DM and OM were insignificantly decreased with increasing the level of tannin up to 4% (CFM4). Also crude protein degradability values followed similar trend to that of DM and OM among treatments. In other words, the UDP was increased as increasing tannin levels from CFM0 up to CFM4. Insignificant differences among different experimental treatments were showed for digestibility coefficients of all nutrient expect of CP which was significantly higher for R2 (P<0.05) than that of control group (R0). Also, nutritive values as DCP for R2 were significantly (P<0.05) higher than that control group (R0), while TDN values were quite similar among treatments. Daily milk yield for R1 and R2 rations were significantly (P<0.05) higher as compared with that of control one R0 with the highest value occurred with R2. No significant differences were observed among the experimental treatments respecting all milk constituents except of total solids percentage, which was higher significantly with the only R2 in comparison with control one. In matching with milk yield trend, also the yields of milk protein and fat were significant higher in tested rations than the control one. Daily gain of kids up to weaning time for tested rations (R 1& R2) were significantly higher (P<0.05) compared with that of control one. Data of estrus status indicated that the control group gave a conception rate 25%, while groups R1 and R2 gave 62.5% and 75%, respectively. Based on these results, it could be concluded that the protection process of soybean meal with 2% QT can improved the CP utilization and dairy goats performance.
