Abstract |
Targeting to evaluate the response to docking, feeding levels and age at slaughtering on carcass performance of local Rahmani fat tailed sheep. The results revealed that docking increased (P<0.05)the weights of heart at 4 months, head at 8 months and pelt at 12 months old. The docked lambs had significant increase . (P<0.01) in the eye muscle (LD) fat, internal fat and kidney fat at 4 and 8 months of age. Fat lean ratio was increased significantly on the cost of lean in (LD).
Docking had a significant increase in protein and ether extract contents of kidney tissue. Cholesterol level of dorsal sites of shoulder and hind part and loin cuts were also increased by docking. Oppositely, triglycerides level was reduced in internal fat and kidney fat by docking. The increase of feed intake did not show much effects where it only increased ether extract contents of kidney tissue while all other parameters measured had a nonsignificant changes. Age at slaughtering had different significant effects where; dressing percent calculated on fasting weight was better at 12 months compared to 8 months, dressing percent calculated on empty body weight was better at 12 than 8 and 4 months of age. Offals percent was decreased by ageing. Eye muscle content of fat was significantly increased also by ageing on the cost of lean while its bone percent was decreased.
Age had significant (P<0.05) impacts on chemical composition of some tissues. In the kidney, protein decreased only from 8 to 12 months, while moisture increased by increased age.
Heart samples showed a decrease in ether extract by increasing age while its moisture content was increased. Loin cuts and dorsal samples of shoulder had decreased moisture values by increasing age at 4 and 12 months, while LD meat moisture was decreased only form 8 to 12 months.
Ether extract contents increased by age for internal fat, kidney fat, loin cuts and LD fat form 4 to 12 months old, while for LD meat it increased only from 8 to 12 months and decreased at 4 to months.
