Arabic : التغيرات الموسمية لخصائص السائل المنوى في ذكور الماعز الزرايبى و علاقتها بالتركيب الخصوى
Abstract To evaluate the effect of season on sexual behavior, semen characteristics and testicular structure of Zaraibi bucks, ten animals were used, for four seasons. Parameters were recorded for seven consecutive weeks, at mid of each season, at which semen was collected twice weekly. At the end of each season testicular biopsies were obtained surgically, for histological and cytological study. Season had a significant effect on sexual desire being the best during summer and the poorest during spring. Semen characteristics were coincided with sexual libido, recorded better characteristics during summer and autumn. Moreover, plasma testosterone concentration was at the highest during summer. Seasons of the year influenced the percentage of testicular tissue occupied by the seminiferous tubules and interstitial tissues. Seminiferous tubules occupied the majority of the testicular tissue during winter, while the minor was occupied during spring. The number of spermatic layers in seminiferous tubules was the maximum during autumn and summer. Abnormal forms of spermatozoa acrosome including appearance of sunken acrosomic granule and acrosomic vacuoles and appearance of peripheral acrosomic granule were observed. These are as well as degeneration in spermatid surface in different locations. Irregular shapes of the nucleus of spermatid were also observed. A characteristic structure, called "multivesicular nuclear body" was detected within the nucleus of Sertoli cells. Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (sER) was abundant throughout the cytoplasm of Sertoli cell and a characteristic circular structure, of sER was located in apical portion of the Sertoli cell. Large lipid droplets were observed in the basal portion of Sertoli cells during winter and spring. The Leydig cells contained abundant smooth endoplasmic reticulum sER), during summer. Meanwhile, large lipid droplet and vacuoles were observed in the cytoplasm of the Leydig cells during spring and winter seasons.
