Abstract |
The present study examined the effectiveness of Myrrh (M) and Ginger (G) essential oils versus formaldehyde fumigation to disinfect White Leghorn and Matrouh hatching eggshell surface and maintain hatching results and chick performance after hatch Hatchability was not affected by breed of birds, however, the chick quality measured as live body weight, feed conversion ratio and viability percent of Matrouh chicks were significantly the best as compared to White Leghorn chicks at 4 or 8 weeks of age. Significant differences between Myrrh or Ginger oils and the formaldehyde fumigation in the hatchability qf eggs were observed. Embryo mortality was lower in Myrrh and Ginger oils groups or their combination group compared to formaldehyde fumigation group. Total bacteria population significantly decreased in Myrrh and Ginger oils as compared to control and formaldehyde fumigation groups The best chick weight at hatch time was observed in the Ginger oil group Performance of chicks after hatch showed that the best results for live body weight and feed conversion ratio at 4 or 8 weeks of age were recorded in the Myrrh and Ginger essential oils groups.
