Abstract |
The objective of the present study was to research the effect of dietary supplemented green algae (Scenedesmus Obliques) on performance of laying hens. Total of 120 laying hens aged 45 weeks old were divided into 4 dietary treatments (n = 30). The first treatment was kept as control and received the basal diet. The second treatment to the fourth treatment received the basal diet Supplemented with 10, 15 and 20 g algae /kg respectively for 16 continuous weeks (from 44 to 60 week of age). Body weight gain, feed consumption, egg production and egg quality were recorded. 10 g algae /kg increased body weight gain and egg production significantly comparing to the control and other treatment. By increasing the inclusion level of dietary algae the body weight gain and egg production decreased significantly. The data for egg production were 50.5, 60.8, 49.5 and 44.7% respectively, the same trend was observed in feed consumption. Egg weight and haugh units were enhanced significantly by 10g algae /kg. However, high algae dietary levels decreased egg weight. It could be concluded that dietary addition of green algae at low levels may enhance the performance of laying hens.
