Abstract The experiment was performed to evaluate some productive, physiological, and biochemical capabilities of growing New-Zealand White (NZW) rabbits fed diets contaminated by lead acetate and a diet containing natural clay in addition to lead acetate. The experiment was lasted for four months and carried out on 210 growing weaned rabbits. All the animals in the experiment were divided into three comparable experimental groups. The first group was fed a commercial diet (control diet), while the 2nd and 3rd groups were fed the control diet supplemented with 0.075 % lead acetate and 0.075 % lead acetate + 1.5% natural clay, respectively. Daily body weight gain, feed efficiency, feed conversion, pre-slaughter weight, dressing %, carcass weight, blood picture and blood constitutes of growing rabbits fed diets containing 0.075% lead acetate decreased significantly, while mortality rate, internal organs weights and some enzymes indicating liver activity and lipid gram in blood serum and brain were increased. In practice, adding 1.5% natural clay to the diets contaminated by 0.075% lead acetate induced significant improvements in most parameters studied and these improvements were also significantly reduced in the control diet. Keyword: Rabbits, lead, natural clay, growth, carcass, blood, semen quality.
