Abstract |
One hundred and eight Golden Montazah laying hens (Egyptian developed strain) aged 24 weeks were divided into six treatment groups of 3 replicates each to Investigate the effect of different dietary levels of iodine (0.3 as control, 0.6, 1.2, 2.4, 4.8 and 9.6 mg / kg diet) on the concentration of Iodine in egg, also the performance, some blood parameters and egg quality of laying hens. The experimental period lasted for 12 weeks in three subsequent interval periods each of four weeks.
The results could be summarized in the following, Increasing iodine levels from 0.3 to 9.6 mg iodine /kg diet significantly increased egg iodine concentration, the highest concentration of egg iodine was observed for the group fed diet supplemented with 9.6 flowed by those fed 4.8 mg iodine /kg diet, while these high levels of iodine negatively affected the egg production. The levels 2.4, 1.2 and 0.6 mg iodine / kg diet increased egg iodine concentration without any adverse effect on egg production. The best feed conversion and egg mass were recorded for those fed diet containing 1.2 followed by 2.4 mg iodine/ kg diet. Blood thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), phosphorus and alkaline phosphates were significantly increased by increasing iodine levels. Egg shell, yolk and albumen percentage and shape and yolk index significantly affected by increasing iodine levels. Laying hen feed supplemented with 0.6, 1.2, 2.4 and 4.8 mg iodine/kg diet improved the economical efficiency compared to the control.
In conclusion supplemented laying hen diet with 2.4 mg iodine/kg diet gave iodine enriched egg can supply 44% of daily requirements of iodine for children form 1-10 years.
