Effect of protein level without or with methionine supplementation on performance of inshas laying hens

Abstract |
A total number of 270 laying hens of lnshas strain at 21 weeks of age were randomly divided into 9 groups (30 hens/ each treatment group). Birds in all treatments were nearly similar in the average initial body weights and average daily egg production. A (3 x 3) experimental factorial design was performed including three levels . of protein (13, 15 and 17%) and there levels of supplemented methionine (0.0, 0.05 and 0.10 %) . Productive performance (Egg production, egg weight, egg mass and feed conversion) were studied during the experimental period (21-36 weeks of age) .
Results obtained revealed that the performance studied of lnshas laying hens was significantly (P<0.05) improved by increasing the protein level in the diets during all the experimental periods except egg weight during 25-28 and 29-32 weeks of age. The results did not show any significant effect on all productive performance studied due to the different levels of methionine supplementation. Egg production, egg weight, egg mass and feed conversion were significantly (P<0.05) influenced by the interaction between dietary protein and tested methionine level.
In conclusion, the dietary level of 15% CP supplemented with 0.10 methionine is recommended for the feeding of local strain laying hens from 21 to 36 weeks of age.
