English : A study of substituting soybean meal by nigella sativa meal on the performance of broiler chicks
Arabic : دراسة استبدال كسب فول الصويا بكسب حبة البركة وتأثيره علي أداء كتاكيت بداري التسمين
Abstract The experimental work of the present study was carried out at El-Takamoly Poultry Project, Fayoum Governorate, Egypt during the period from August to September, 2001 to study the effect of replacing parts of soybean meal crude protein (SBM) with Nigella Sativa meal crude protein (NSM) on growth performance, carcass yield and composition, some blood constituents, sensory evaluation of cooked meat, economical efficiency as well as nutrient digestibilities of the experimental diets. One basal starter and finisher corn- soybean meal diets (in which SBM crude protein was replaced by NSM crude protein at levels of 0, 10, 20, 30 %) were formulated to contain nearly 22 & 18.5 % CP and 3100 & 3200 kcal ME/kg; respectively. A total number of 576 unsexed one-week old Arbor-Acres broiler chicks was assigned randomly to 4 dietary equal groups of 12 equal replicates each (fed either 0, 10, 20 and 30 % NSM starter diet). At the beginning of finishing period, each experimental group was subdivided into 4 equal sub-groups of 30 chicks of 3 equal replicates each (fed either 0, 10, 20 or 30 % NSM finisher diet). Therefore, there were 4 and 16 experimental groups in the starting and finishing periods, respectively. From the nutritional and economical point of view, it could be concluded that substituting NSM crude protein up to 30 % for SBM crude protein in both starter and finisher diets of broiler chicks has no detrimental effect on their growth performance. Since poultry production depends mainly on the economical return, feeding broiler chicks on diets containing NSM crude protein at level of 10 or 20 % to 4-wk of age and 10, 20 or 30 % to 7-wk of age gave the best economical efficiency. Key words: (Nigella Sativa, Meal, Broiler, Performance, Slaughter, Sensory, Economic and Digestibility).
