Abstract |
The adults of some species visit flowers to consume pollen as a protein source required for their sexual maturation and/or body maintenance. The statistical analysis of the data, showed that apple pollen comes in the first category, followed by Banana fruit slices, while bean pollen come in the last category. This suggests that pollen is not obligatory for survival at the adult stage of T. squalida.
Polyacrylamid Gel Electrophoresis (PAGE), indicated the total number of bands in each of apple, bean flowers and banana fruit were 18, 26 and 8 bands. IN spite of, bean pollen contains the greatest number of protein bands (26 bands) and apple pollen has 18 bands, but apple pollen has the greatest lipoprotein bands (Nine from ten present at the tested samples). ; Bean pollens showed three lipoprotein bands, while banana fruit showed two lipoprotein bands. This reflects the essential of lipoprotein nutrition in fecundity of T.Squalida.
Finally, the data indicated that the nutritional value is not usually judged on its protein content but controlled with the protein quality. The results of this study suggest that, pollen kind could influence the population dynamics of the adult of T. squalida. T. squalida adults search for pollens with highly lipoprotein content.
