Abstract |
Six new local cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) hybrids named Anwar 1&2, Eshraq 1&2 and El-Safa 51&62 in addition Alfred hybrid as a commercial one were assessed for susceptibility for pests in greenhouse without chemical application at Central Laboratory for Agricultural Climate, Dokki, Giza during 2006 and 2007 seasons.
Obtained results clarified that, there was no infestation by pathogens specially, powdery mildew and viral plants on the six hybrids and also, the commercial one through the experimental period lasted from September to November in 2006 and 2007 seasons. In addition, infestation by the whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Gen.) was moderate on the six cucumber hybrids and could be arranged descendingly according to the whitefly infestation as follow: El-Safa 62, Anwar 1, Anwar 2, El-Safa 51, Eshraq 2 and Eshraq 1 additionally, the commercial hybrid received the highest infestation during the two seasons.
Aphid's infestation started late at the end of October and existed in spots as colonies; Spots were found only on the commercial hybrid, Eshraq 1, Anwar 1 and El-Safa 1 hybrids. Regarding to the leaf miner, Liriomyza sativae Blanchard, 1938, there was insignificant infestation on the six local cucumber hybrids and the commercial one in the greenhouse during the experimental period.
Additionally, Outbreak of red spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch. population was occurred on late October on the studied cucumber hybrids that, we had to apply one spray of the natural acaricide, Baioca “matrine” to reduce the infestation.
Irrigation and fertilization treatments done according to the recommendation of Ministry of Agric. based on Penman (1984) and Abou Hadid et al. (1989).
Thus, the six cucumber hybrids could be cultivated without pesticides treatments and not only to get high yield but also to keep the environment and ourselves free of pesticides risks
