English : Seasonal Abundance of the Cabbage Aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae (L.), and its Natural Enemies in Cabbage Fields at Giza Governorate , Egypt
Arabic : التواجد الموسمى لمن الكرنب وأعدائه الطبيعية فى حقول الكرنب فى محافظة الجيزة – مصر
Abstract The present work was carried out to determine the population density of the cabbage aphid Brevicoryne brassicae L., and the associated natural enemies during the winter plantation of two successive seasons 2009 and 2010 at Giza Governorate. Results indicated that, the cabbage aphid B. brassicae reached its maximum number during March 2009 and 2010. Three Braconid parasitoids were recorded parasitizing the cabbage aphid including; Aphidius colemani (Viereck), Diaeretiella rapae (M’Intosh) and Praon sp. Population of the parasitoid, D. rapae was the highest compared with the other two parasitoids. The highest total percentages of aphid parasitism were recorded in March 2009 and 2010. Also, the highest mean percentage of adult parasitoids’ emergence from mummies was recorded during February 2009 and 2010. Sex ratio (males : females) indicated that, the proportion of females offspring was higher than that of males. The two predators Coccinella undecimpunctata L. and Chrysoperla carnea (Steph.) had the highest total numbers compared with the other observed predator species .Therefore, the two parasitoids species, D.rapae & A.colemani, beside the two predators C. undecimpunctata and C. carnea could be mass reared in the laboratory and released in cabbage as well as other crops that are subjected to attack by the cabbage aphid B. brassicae .
