Abstract |
Four species of phytophagous pests including Tetranychus arabicus Attiah, Plannoccocus citri (Risso), Collembola and aphids and six species of predaceous prostigmatid mites including, Agistemus exsertus Gonz. Spinibdella bifurcate Ateyo, Raphignathus gracilis Rack, Hemicheyletus bakeri (Ehara) Saniosulus nudus Summers and Fessonia lappaceae Southcott were collected from weeds, leaf litter, and soil under mango trees over a period of two years extending from March 1997 to February 1999.
Results obtained show that the most dominant pests represented throughout the year are Plannoccocus citri and collembolan while the greatest number of predators were Spinibdella bifurcate then Raphignathus gracilis ranking the second and Agistemus exsertus the third. It appeared from the results that increases in population number of predators resulted in reduction in number of pests population.
Studying the effect of maximum & minimum temperature , relative humidity and wind velocity on population density of pests and their associated natural enemies indicated that moderate temperature corresponded with significant increase in pests population, while there was no relation between the relative humidity and the population density of pests and predators.
Statistical analysis showed insignificant correlation between the maximum & minimum temperature and the density of pests and predators.
