English : ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF HETERORHABDITIS BAUJARDI (PHAN ET AL, 2003) AS A FIRST RECORD FROM EGYPT AND STUDYING SOME OF ITS BIOLOGICAL TRAITS.
Arabic : عزل وتصنيف heterorhabditis baujardi من مصر كتسجيل أول ودراسة بعض صفاته البيولوجية .
Abstract The present study aimed to isolate and identify an indigenous Heterorhabditis nematode from the Egyptian soil. The identification to the species level was based especially on the morphometric measurements of the infective juveniles and the males of the second generation , following the available taxonomic keys. The measurements did not match any of the species present in the keys at this time. After two years, by comparing these measurements with that of the new species Heterorhabditis baujardi, it was found that the present isolate belongs to Heterorhabditis baujardi and is considered a first record for this species in Egypt. The virulence of this isolate (Hb) as well as the imported Heterorhabditis bacteriophora, (NJ) strain was tested using the sand column assay at 40IJs/larva after 24-h exposure period. Virulence of our isolate (72%) is more than that of NJ (58%). The tested isolates differed in their ability to penetrate Corcyra cephalonica and Galleria mellonella larvae. For C.cephalonica Hb recorded lower penetration rate (16%) than that of NJ (36%) while for G.mellonella Hb scored higher penetration rate than NJ ( 19% vs 6%). The rank of mortality did not match that of the penetration rate.
