English : Population Growth Of Tyrophagus Putrescentiae (Schrank) As Influenced By Food Type, Photoperiod And Light Colour (Acarina: Acaridae)

Abstract Food type, photoperiod and light colour significantly influenced on population growth of Tyrophagus putrescentiae. It was evident when fertilized female was fed on fish meal, meat meal, Rass cheese and yeast; and exposed to 8L : 16D, 16L: 8D and 24L : OD hr under blue, green. red and yellow light colours during fourty days after treatment (L = Light. D = Dark). Yeast and Rass cheese harboured the highest numbers, while fish meal and meat meal gave significantly lower numbers. Counts of T. putrescentiae on yeast and fish meal 10, 20, 30 and 40 days after treatment were (20.7 & 12.0), (160.0 & 103.8), (530.1 & 281.2) and (3429.0 & 1742.1), respective1y.
