Arabic : استخدام كسب الزيتون في علائق تسمين حملان الاغنام الرحمانى
Abstract This study was conducted to evaluate the nutritive value of olive cake as an ingredient in sheep rations. Thirty two Rahmani lambs were used in comparative feeding trial to study the effects of incorporating different levels of olive cake in the concentrate mixture of sheep on their growth and fattening performance. Concentrate mixtures (CM) containing zero (A), 15% (B), 25% (C) and 35% (D) olive cake, with other feed ingredients were formulated to be isonitrogenous. Experimental mixture were offered daily at 3% of lamb’s LBW for all groups, while wheat straw was offered ad libitum. All groups were fed during the last 36 days of the finishing period on an extra amount of 0.5% of LBW corn grains to increase the energy density of experimental rations. In vivo digestibility trails were conducted to determine nutrients digestibility and feeding values of the rations. rumen liquor parameters and blood metabolites were investigated as well. Results indicated that CF, ash, NDF and ADF contents were higher, while CP and EE contents were lower for olive cake, in comparison with the other common oil seed cakes. Most nutrient digestibilities tended to decrease with increasing the olive cake in rations up to 35%. Similar trend was found with OF fractions (NDF and ADF) and the TDN values, however the DCP percentage did not significantly influenced by treatments. Daily gain of lambs fed control ration (A) was significantly higher (P<0.05) than those fed olive cake rations (B,C, and D), however, no significant differences were detected among animal groups. Over the finishing period, the daily gain was markedly increased for all groups relative to those of growing period, with superior values with A and B versus C and D rations. The feed conversion efficiency was reduced with increasing the olive cake in rations, while feed cost per kg gain was relatively lower than control. It could be recommended to use olive cake in formulating concentrate mixtures of growing lambs up to 25% especially when the traditional feed grains are not available and expensive. Keywords: olive cake, concentrate mixture, lambs performance.
