English : Effect of garlic and black cumin seeds on the immune system and some intestinal microorganisms of mamourh laying hens
Arabic : تأثير الثوم و حبة البركة على الصفات المناعية و بعض الكائنات الحية الدقيقة في أمعاء دواجن المعمورة البياضة
Abstract One hundred and five Maamourah lying hens 28 weeks were divided into 5 equal dietary groups in order to study the influence of minced fresh garlic (Allium sativum) and cracked black cumin seeds ( Nigella sativa) on some immunological parameters and intestinal microbial flora of these birds. The experiment lasted 12 weeks; the examined groups were fed on basal diets containing either garlic ( 5or 3% w/w) or black cumin seeds (1.5 or 0.75% w/w) and a control group was included. Immunological analysis of the blood revealed that garlic could increase the total numbers of leucocytes, hererophiles, eosinophiles and basophiles but had no effect on lymphocytic counts. Meanwhile, the incorporation of black cumin seeds into the diet of lying hens enhanced the total numbers of heterophiles and monocytes, while reduced the total number of eosinophiles and lymphocytes. However, both garlic and black cumin seeds had no effect on the antibody titre. The microbial flora of the intestinal inclusions of hens consumed diets containing garlic or cumin seeds were lower than those fed on diets without the two additives. The examined microbial groups include, total bacterial count, apore forming bacteria, acid forming bacteria, yeasts, mould, lipolytic bacteria, proteolytic bacteria, cellulose decomposers, E. coli clostridia faecal streptococci, Bacillus cereus, staphylococci, Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. However, the trend was pronounced with garlic than with black cumin seeds. Keywords: Garlic, Nigella sativa, Immune response, Intestinal microflora, Lying hens.
