English : Effects of age hens and oviposition intervals in Mamourah a local chicken breed and their effects on hatching traits and chicks weights
Arabic : تأثير العمر و فترات وضع البيض في دجاج المعمورة المحلية على صفات التفريخ ووزن الكتكوت
Abstract The experiment was conducted to determine if oviposition time would affect hatching traits and chick weights of hatching eggs from two different ages of Mamourah a local chicken. A total of 7200 fertile eggs were collected at 2 hr or more intervals. The time of egg collection was beginning from 6.00 am to 15.00 pm of Mamourah hens at 40 and 56 weeks of age were used. Laying hens were fed ad- libitum. Eggs collected daily and stored prior to incubation at room temperature ( about 20 C and 70% RH). Data of hatching eggs were utilized to achieve the experiment for hatching traits and chick weights. The results obtained revealed that, egg weight before incubation, egg loss percentage, shell surface area, evaporation rate loss, incubation time (hrs), hatching time (hrs), fertility and hatchability percentages, early and late embryonic mortality percentages and chick weight were affected significantly (p< 0.01) by age of hens, while egg weights at transfer were not affected by advancing age. The oviposition time effect significantly (p<0.01) on egg weight before incubation, egg weight at transfer, shell surface area, specific gravity, incubation time (hrs) and hatching time (hrs), but chick weight affected significantly (p<0.05). in respect of egg weight loss percentage, evaporation rate loss during incubation, fertility and hatchability percentages, early and late embryonic mortality percentages were not affected significantly by oviposition time. However over 94% of hatchability percent of fertile eggs due to specific gravity and water losses during incubation. Also over 89% of the variation in chick weight at hatch can be explained by initial egg weight and weight loss during incubation. the interaction between age of hen X oviposition time were significant (P<0.05) in case of egg weight before incubation egg weight at transfer, shell surface area and specific gravity, while other traits were not affected. Generally; age of pullets and the environmental effects of oviposition time on hatching eggs must be considered to obtain optimum hatching performance. Also it may be concluded that selection for eggs produced by breeders on the basis of weight loss during incubation/or evaporation rate loss, specific gravity and egg weight will improved hatchability percent and chick weight at one day old. Keywords: Mamourah, hatch, age, oviposition.
