English : Nutritional value of date seed in broiler rations
Arabic : القيمة الغذائية لنوى البلح في علائق دجاج اللحم
Abstract Two hundred and forty 7 days-old Hubbard chicks were distributed into eight dietary treatment groups. Each of 30 chicks in 3 replicates (10 chicks/ replicate) was used in this study. The experiment was conducted to study the nutritional value of different varieties of date seeds (DS) and effect of incorporation of DS as an untraditional energy source in broiler rations. Ground DS were included in broiler diets at 0.12, 16 and 20% replacing yellow corn without or with zinc-bacitracin (ZB, 50 PPM) supplementation. A starter diet was used during the starter- grower period (7-28 days of age) contained 22.03% CP and 3106 Kcal ME/Kg diet, while the finisher diet containing 19.00% CP and 3195 Kcal ME/Kg diet was used during the finisher period (29-49 days of age) and all the nutrients were as recommended by NRC (1994). Diets were nutritionally evaluated through growth performance, as well as percentage of dressing. Digestibility trails and blood parameters. Results obtained could be summarized as follows: 1- Average live body weight, body weight gain, and survival rate were significantly (P<0.05)increased in broiler groups fed on the diets with increasing the dietary DS level up to 20% with ZB supplementation compared with other groups. 2- Values of feed conversion were significantly improved, while average feed intake was significantly decreased with DS supplementation up to 20% with ZB supplementation. 3- Levels of DS up to 20% were significantly similar in growth and feed conversion values, to control group without ZB supplementation. 4- Digestibility coefficients of DM, OM, OP, OF and NFE were significantly (P<0.05) increased with increasing the dietary DS level up to 20% with or without ZB supplementation. 5- Total edible parts were significantly (P<0.05)increased with increasing the dietary DS level up to 20% with ZB supplementation. 6- Total bacterial counts on the washed jejunum contents showed a decrease when the DS were used with or without ZB supplementation with any adverse effect on blood constituents of broiler chicks. 7- Date seeds contained flavonoid compounds hence. DS can also be used as a medicinal food. Key words: date seeds, broiler, zinc-bacitracin, productive performance. ??
