Abstract |
A total number of 120 unsexed 7day old Anake chicks were distributed into four experimental treatment groups equal in numbers (3 replicates of 10 chicks each) were used in this study. The first experimental group was fed on the basal diet, as control, while groups 2, 3, and 4 were fed on the basal diet supplemented with medicinal plants MP): Chamomile (Matricaria aurea), Thyme (Thyme vulgarize) and Black seeds (Nigella sativa) which are cultivated in Palestine, at a level of 0.2% each. A starter diet was used during the starter period (7-28 days of age) contained 23.00 % CP and 3000 ME kcal/kg diet, while the finisher diet contained 20.00 % CP and 3200 ME kcal/kg diet was used during the finisher period (29-42 days of age) and all the nutrients were as recommended by NRC (1994). Diets were nutritionally evaluated through growth performance feed intake and feed conversion as well as dressing percentage, digestibility trials and blood parameters.
Results obtained could be summarized as follows:
1.Average final live body weight, body weight gain and economical efficiency % were significantly (P<0.05) increased while, values of feed conversion were significantly improved in broiler groups fed on the diets supplemented with 0.2% medicinal plants MP compared with the control.
2. Digestibility coefficients of DM, OM CP, EE, CF and NFE of the experimental diets were significantly (P<0.05) increased with medicinal plants (MP) supplementation.
3. Carcass traits were significantly (P<0.05) increased by MP supplementation.
In general, results indicated that using MP (Chamomile, Thyme and Black seeds as feed additives at 0.2% level enhance the productive performance and economical efficiency with no adverse effects on blood constituents of broiler chicks.
