Abstract A total number of 180 broiler chicks were used to study the possible protective effects, if any, of additional supplements of vit. K and E against the toxic effects caused by rapeseed products. The treatments were soybean meal as a control (SBC), rapeseed flour (RF) and rapeseed protein concentrate (RP) diets. One day old broiler chicks were assigned randomly to six dietary treatments .The six experimental groups were as follows: 1) Control group fed a basal diet 2). Fed the basal diet + RF. 3) Fed the basal diet +RP .4) Fed the basal diet + Vit. K + Vit. E. 5) Fed RF+ Vit. K + Vit. E .6) Fed the RP+ Vit. K; + Vit. E .The supplemented doses were; 1 mg/Kg Vit. K and 15 mg/Kg Vit. E. Feeding treatments lasted 56 days. Inclusion of RF and RP without addition of supplemented Vit. K +E in the diet of broilers significantly retarded growth, reduced feed consumption and lowered efficiency of feed utilization. Rapeseed products RF and RP also increased activities of serum alkaline phosphatase. Thyroid glands were markedly enlarged and appeared hypertrophied with some destructive changes due to RF and RP administration. Moreover, incidence of liver lesions was more frequent and death due to hemorrhagic liver was increased. Sections of liver showed severe hemorrhage and hepatocytic necrosis. By eight weeks of age the plasma concentrations of T3; T4 and T3 /T4 ratio in all dietary treatments were nearly similar to the control group .A significant increase in plasma GOT and GPT was detected in birds fed different rapeseed products (RF or RP) without vitamins addition. This increase was noticed in birds showed little or more macroscopic evidence of liver damage. Addition of supplemental Vit. K +E effectively alleviated the deleterious effects of RF and RP on growth, efficiency of feed utilization, activities of serum enzymes and markedly improved thyroid condition and reduced the severity and frequency of liver hemorrhagic incidence. Deaths due to hemorrhagic liver were markedly reduced by supplemental vitamin K + E.
