English : Evaluation of different methionine sources in broiler diets: 1- response of male broiler chicks to dl-methionine (Dl-met), Dl-methionine hydroxy analogue calcium (Dl-mha-ca) and Dl-methionine hydroxy analogue -free acid (Dl-mha-fa)

Abstract This experiment was designed to evaluate three commercial methionine sources, being DL-methionine (DL-MET). DL-methionine hydroxy analogue- Calcium (MHA-Ca) and DL-methionine hydroxy analogue - Free acid (MHA-FA) fed to male broilers at three equivalent levels in a corn-soybean meal diet. A number of 360 one-week-old male Ross broilers was randomly distributed to ten treatments. The performance results in terms of body weight, body weight gain, feed consumption and feed efficiency were recorded weekly during the experimental period (1-6 weeks of age). The results and conclusions during the experimental period (1-6 wks of age) could be summarized as follows: At least 1.43% and 0.381% added methionine equivalent to provide 4.68% and 3.75 SAA % of dietary CP or 0.93% and 0.60% of starter and grower diets, respectively were required in a 20/16% CP corn-soybean meal diet to achieve the maximum gain in weight of chicks between one to six weeks of age. The biological activity of MHA-FA was statistically equivalent to that of DL-MET in improving the body weight gain of chicks being superior to that of MHA-Ca group. The relative efficiencies of MHA-FA and MHA-Ca to DL-MET were 102 and 98% respectively in supporting gains and weight of chicks during 1-6 wks of age.
