Knowledge and Attitudes of the Farmers for Using the Rice Straw
in Some Villages in Alsharkia

| Abstract |
The main objectives of the study were to : determine knowledge level of the respondent's for using the rice straw , and study the relationship between the respondent's scores of their knowledge level and the scores of the studied independent variables . Also determine nature and strength of the respondent's attitudes for using the rice straw , and study the relationship between the respondent's scores of their attitudes and the scores of the studied independent variables. In addition to the determination of the information sources which the respondents depend on getting their information for using the rice straw . Also identify the extension services which the agricultural Extension presented to the rice farmers , and identify the problems which face the respondents for using the rice straw .
Data were collected from random sample of 192 respondents from Al Sharkia Governorate by personal interviews using Pretested questionnaire during November and December , 2003.Data were tabulated , processed , analyzed by using percentages, frequencies. arithmetic mean , weighted means, simple Correlation coefficient and Step. Wize analysis
The results of this research revealed that :
About 84,9 % of respondents their knowledge level ranged from low to moderate . The results illustrated that the following independent variables were affecting the knowledge level of the respondents : The degree of the exposure to mass media , the educational status and possession of land .
The results Showed that 68.23 % of respondents had attitudes toward using the rice straw ranged from low to moderate . Also the results illustrated the following independent variables were affecting the respondent's attitudes : the educational states and the degree of the exposure to mass media .
The most important sources of information which the respondents depend on getting information for using the rice straw were : the director
of agricultural society , friends & neighbors , T.V., Radio and extension agent.
The most important extension services which the agricultural extension presented to the rice farmers were to perform the rice straw stress for the respondents , meeting held toward using the rice straw and following up the execution of the farmers for making organic fertilizers
Concerning the most important problems which face the respondents to use the rice straw very well were: the pistons were non available to all villages, the lack of mechanical tools and facilities for using the rice straw and the lack of fibers which used to stress the rice straw,
