| Abstract |
The study was designated to detect the efficacy of passive protection using immune serum against local strains of EHV-1 to prevent abortion in susceptible mares, so the laboratory animals (mice, rabbits) used as a model. Preparation of the immune sera was done using different types of viral antigens. Experimentally, it was clear that inactivated (at 56° C) egg propagated viral antigen was better than tissue culture antigen. Also, transfer of 0.2 and 0.3 ml polyclonal hyperimmune serum protected 75% and 100% of inoculated mice respectively after challenge. While, 1 ml was protect inoculated rabbits. In conclusion, transfer of immune serum against EHV-1 succeedded to prevent abortion in laboratory animals at last third of pregnancy. This is a step to be tested it in mares
