Abstract |
This study was carried out at the Poultry Research Station, Poultry Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Fayoum, Cairo University. Four experiments were conducted during the period from February to July, 1996. A total number of 324 unsexed one-day old Arbor Acres broiler type chicks were used to study the effect of substituting yellow corn ( YC ) by either sorghum or rice bran at different rates on broilers and laying hens performance with reference to enzyme supplementation.
The following results were obtained as follows:
Experiment 1: - Effect of substituting YC by sorghum with reference to enzyme supplementation on broilers performance.
1. Sorghum can completely substitute YC during the period from one-day old up to seven weeks of age without any detrimental effect on LBW. Also, there were neither significant nor consistent effects of substituting YC by sorghum on LBWG, FI, FC, CPC or CER. slaughter characteristics and intestinal tract measurements of broiler chickens during the periods from 0-4,4-7 and 0-7 weeks of age. Sorghum can be used in place of YC in broiler feeds with no obvious deterioration of economic efficiency.
2. The addition of kemzyme (500 mg/kg) as enzyme preparations to sorghum-corn diets insignificantly improved LBW, LBWG, FC, CPC or CER, slaughter characteristics and intestinal tract measurements at different ages. Enzyme supplementation slightly reduced FI during different periods and did not improve economic efficiency for broilers fed sorghum diets.
Experiment 2: - Effect of substituting YC by rice bran with reference to enzyme supplementation on broilers' performance.
1. It can be concluded that feeding graded levels of rice bran substituting from 50-100% of YC had detrimental effects on LBW, LBWG, FC, CPC or CER of broilers. However, LBW, LBWG for broilers fed the 25% rice bran substitution for YC did not differ significantly than those fed the control diet. FI decreased as level of rice bran substitution increased beyond 50%. These groups had significantly higher liver, gizzard, total giblets% and longer, small and large intestine. The economic efficiency favors the substitution of YC by 25% rice bran than the other levels of substituted.
2.Kemzyme supplementation significantly improved LBW, LBWG(during the finishing and the whole growing period) but reduced FI insignificantly. Significant improvement in FC, CPC and CER accompanied enzyme supplementation but insignificant changes in slaughter characteristics and intestinal tract lengths were obtained. Kemzyme supplementation did not improve economic efficiency for broilers fed rice bran diets .
Experiment 3: - Effect of substituting YC by sorghum with reference to enzyme supplementation on Golden Montazah layers performance.
1. Sorghum can completely substitute YC in Golden Montazah layers rations during the period from 31-38 weeks of age without any detrimental effects on egg characteristics and economic efficiency.
However, YC resulted in significantly better yolk color and FC than sorghum.
2. Kemzyme supplementation during the period from 31-38 weeks of age improved EN significantly and yolk color, but insignificantly improved EM and FC, however, significantly decreased EW. The economic efficiency of those fed the diet supplemented with kemzyme decreased than those fed the control diet.
Experiment 4: - Effect of substituting YC by rice bran with reference to enzyme supplementation on Golden Montazah layers performance.
1.It can be concluded that rice bran could substitute YC in Golden Montazah layers diets up to the rate of 25% without harmful effects on EN , EW , EM , FC , egg quality and economic efficiency .
2. Kemzyme supplementation resulted in slightly improvement in EN,EW, EM , FC and yolk color but reduced economic efficiency than the control diet.
