Abstract |
This study aimed to evaluation the effect of vitamin C and cumin supplementation on growth rate, pH, morphology and enzymes activity in some organs of gastrointestinal. This work continued for 4 weeks in hot summer season. New Zealand White (NZW) rabbit kits (30 days of age) were divided into 3 groups; 1st group: control group; 2nd group: kits were fed diet contained 200 mg vitamin C/kilogram diet (Vit.C) and 3rd group: kits were fed diet contained 100g cumin/kilogram diet (Cumin). Supplementation of cumin in feed diet resulted in increasing body weight and body gain. It is noticed that increasing the small intestine length with advancing age in Vit. C and cumin groups. Amylase, protease and pectinase enzymes were higher in Vit. C and cumin groups than control. In Vit C group both of villus height and crypt depth after 2 week of supplementation were lower by 14.8 and 4.5% respectively, than 1st week. With advancement of age in control group observed the villus height was slightly increased (+8.4%) while, crypt depth was reduced (-4.1%). Supplemental cumin in feed diet was increased the body gain and intestinal enzymes activity in rabbit weaned. This may be due to the cumin seeds has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity that reflected in improvement the villus-crypt structure.
Key words: Vitamin C, cumin, growth, digestive enzymes, small intestine.
