English : Evaluation of the dietary supplementation with three different clay types on productive performance of laying hens
Arabic : تقييم اضافة ثلاثة انواع من الطين على اداء الدجاج البياض
Abstract An experiment was undertaken to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation with either of clay types, namely bentonite, kaolin or tafla, on the performance of laying hens. During a 20week feeding trial, 22-week old Mandarah laying hen groups received layer diets (ME, 2726 Kcal/kg and 15.9% CP) supplemented with either bentonite, kaolin or tafla, each at levels of 0.0, 0.5, 1.0 or 1.5 % of the diet. Groups of hens fed on diets containing 0.0 % of these clay types served as controls. Data on laying performance were recorded. Some traits of egg quality were measured. Egg fertility and hatchability were determined. At the end of the experiment, a digestibility trial was conducted, and an economic evaluation was also made. The results showed that addition of bentonite, kaolin or tafla to layer diets at levels up to 1.5% had no adverse effects on laying performance, nutrients digestibility or egg quality traits studied. However, the performance of hens for egg production and feed conversion was significantly improved when they were fed on the 1.0% clay-diet. Egg fertility and hatchability were not significantly affected by the dietary clay types, but were negatively influenced by increasing their inclusion rate into the diets up to 1.0%, then both of the two parameters were significantly improved when hens were fed on the 1.5% clay-diets. From an economic point of view, supplementing layer diets with either bentonite or kaolin at a level of 1.0% of the diet seemed to have an advantage over that with tafla. .ey words: Hens, clays, egg performance, digestibility, fertility and egg quality.
