Abstract |
Two hundreds and forty Bovans laying hens at 24 weeks old were divided into a factorial arrangement (2 x 4) and fed eight experimental diets which contained two levels of crude protein (17 & 18 % CP) and four supplemented DL- methionine levels under levels in each protein diet (0.0, 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15 %). The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of varying dietary protein and supplemented methionine levels on productive performance and economic efficiency during the laying period (24 - 43 weeks old).
Laying performance and egg quality traits of hens fed 17 % dietary crude protein showed insignificant differences, except the final live body weight, while those fed 17% CP and supplemented with (0.15 % methionine) supported higher economic efficiency as compared with other groups.
It could be recommended that Bovans Brown commercial egg type which fed 17 % CP had no adverse effect on their performance ability or egg quality parameters. Also, methionine supplementation at (0.15 %) to layers diet had 17% CP supported economic efficiency as compared with other groups.
Key words: Economic performance, protein, methionine levels, laying hens.
