Abstract |
This work was designed to study the effect of mating time postpartum (PP) and pregnancy status on blood metabolites and performance of doe rabbits A total number of 45 does and 9 bucks of mature New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits weighting 3.0-3.5 kg and aging 5-6 months were used in the present study. Does were divided according to postpartum mating interval (next to the first parity) into three groups. Does ofgroup1,2 and 3 (G1, G2 and G3) were remated through 24 hrs after kindling, on the day 14 and 30 postpartum (after weaning), respectively. Reproductive data was recorded (Number of services per conception, conception rate and litter traits). Blood samples were collected before mating, at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days through pregnancy period to determine total protein, albumin, glucose, total lipids, calcium, inorganic phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase.
The results showed that number of services per conception, conception rate, litter weight at birth, litter size at weaning and litter weight at weaning were not significantly affected by mating. time postpartum. However, Number of parities and litter size at birth were significantly affected by mating time postpartum.
There were no significant differences in total protein, albumin, alkaline phosphatase due to mating time postpartum. However, total lipids and glucose significantly differ (P < 0.05) among treatment groups. Calcium was significantly higher in does ofG1 than G2 and G3. Does in G3 having significantly higher inorganic phosphorus level in serum than that ofG1 and G2.
The highest level of total protein, total lipids, glucose and alkline phosphatase were detected in serum of does at .14 day of pregnancy. However, the highest level oj albumin' and calcium was observed at 7 days of pregnancy in does.
