Prediction of 305-da y milk yield from partial records of Egyptian buffalo using regression procedure

Abstract |
Multiple linear regression procedure was used to predict 305-day milk yield for a total of 1932 lactation records in the first three lactations of Egyptian buffalo. The seventh monthly record (M7) had high and positive correlation with 305-day milk yield of the first lactation (r = 0.79). The corresponding figures for the second and third lactations were 0.80 and 0.77 for M6 and MS, respectively. Milk yield in 305-day length was best predicted using the first six monthly records. The multiple regression equation explained 92.0, 92.0 and 90.4% of variation in 305-day milk yield in the first three lactations; respectively. The increase in R2 with adding extra months was negligible.
