Abstract |
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of using two levels from both energy (100 and 120%) and protein (87.5 and 100%) according to El-Ashry allowances (1980) on the productive and reproductive performance of Egyptian buffaloes during the last 4 months of pregnancy and the first 120 days of lactation season. Twenty pregnant buffalo cows in different parities (at the last 4 months of pregnancy) were grouped into 4 feeding treatments (five animals each) according to their milk yield in the last preceding lactation and animal weight. F0ur experimental treatments were tested, (1) 100% energy + 87.5% pr0tein (E1P1),(2) 100% energy +100%pr0tein (E1P2),(3)120% energy +87.5 % pr0tein (E2P1) and (4) 120% energy + 100% pr0tein (E2P2) . During the prepartum peri0d ,experimental rati0ns c0nsisted of concentrate feed mixture (CFM) ,yellow corn (as conoentrates) ,rice straw and berseem hay (as roughage sources) .However, soybean meal was allowed to balance energy and protein levels during the postpartum (lactation season) .Rasults indicated that animals fed 120% energy (E2) and 87.5% protein levels (P1) recorded non- significant (P>0.05) highest values of nutrients digestibilty of DM,OM,Cop,Cfand NFDbut significant (p<0.05) highest dighestibility for EE.Also ,animals received 120% energy level during pre and postpartum period recorded slightly higher (P>0.05) averages change of body weight ,placenta and fetus liquid weights, shorter days open, longer calving interval and enhance (P>0.05) feed conversion for DCPonly. At the same time animals fed 87.5% protein level (P1) recorded higher (P<0/05) average daily milk yield and 7% FCM yield but milk fat ,protein lactose, TS, SNF and ash percentages were not significantly (P>0.05) affected by the energy and protein levels . Also showed higher (P>0.05) calves birth weigh placenta weight and enhanced feed conversion for DM, gross efficency as SE and TDN (P>0.05) but ,net conversion rate conversion rate as Sea and DCP wasnot significant (p,0.05) In addition, experimental group fed ration containing 120% energy with 87.5% protein levels (E2P1) tended to show higher milk yield ,7% FCM,as well as fat ,protein lactose ,TS,SNF and ash percentages and their yield. The feed efficiency was the best with respect to DM and DCP to give one kg 7% FCM with that group
