English : Evaluation of whole crayfish meal (Procambrus Clarkii) as partial or complete replacement of fish meal protein in polyculture commercial diets

Abstract This study was designed to determine the effect of partial or complete replacing of fish meal protein (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100% ) with whole crayfish meal (WCFM). Fingerlings of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Common carp (Cyprins carpio ) and mullet (Mugil cephalus) with in average initial live weight 2, 1 and 0.8g respectively. The fish were fed at a level of 3% of body weight twice a day (at 8 a.m and 2 p.m). A total number of about 8000 fish fingerlings were reared (65% of Nile tilapia, 25% of commen carp and 10% of mullet) in earthen pond. Fishes were distributed into 5 experimental treatments, each in three replicates. The experimental diets were formulated to contain (30.56% cp) and (3339.89 DE kcal/kg) and the experimental period continued for five months (152days). Chemical analysis showed relatively high cp (32.12% ) and Ash (24.28%) in whole cryfish meat (WCFM) but the EE was low (1.60%). Water quality measurements were found to be the normal ranges suitable for the experimental fishes. The best feed conversion was noticed in groups fed diet containing 100% fish meal (control), while the worst value was noticed in diet containing the whole crayfish meal (100%). The crayfish meal can successfully replace up to 75% of fish meal protein in the diets of the poly culture (Nile tilapia, mullet and common carp). The results indicated that the use of 50% Crayfish meal was more economical and realize net revenue than the other replacement percentages, due to decreasing the diet costs. Keywords: whole crayfish meal, tioapia, common carp and mullet, feeding performance.
