Abstract |
An experiment was conducted to study the effect of using black seed (BS), dried garlic (DG) and onion (DO) powder at level of 1% each on rabbit performance, carcass characteristics, some physiological parameters and economical efficiency. A total number of forty- eight weaned 5 weeks – old New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits were distributed to be iso- nitrogenous (17%CP) and iso- energetic (2700Kcal DE/Kg diet). The dietary treatments fed to rabbits for 8 weeks.
The results showed that live body weight, daily weight gain and feed conversion were improved significantly by adding of either black seed, garlic or onion to rabbits diet. Significant effect was observed on carcass characteristics due to black seed, garlic and onion supplementation. Black seed gave close economical efficiency for dried onion powder. However, the best economical efficiency was recorded with dried garlic powder. Also, there was an improvement in all blood parameters studied, especially those related to immune system and a big reduction in total lipids and cholesterol values due to BS, DG and DO supplementation compared to control group.
Key words: Onion, Garlic, Black seed, Immune system, Performance.
