Abstract |
The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of reserpine, hyroxyzine and chlorpromazine dietary supplementation on the growth performance of broiler chicks and developed local chicks “Gimmizah” exposed to environmental heat stress during summer season.
Six hundred, one day-old chicks from either Hubbard broiler chicks or Gimmizah chicks were used in the present study Each of Hubbard chicks or Gimmizah chicks were divided into 10 groups x3 replicates x20 chicks. They were fed on 10 experimental treatments based on a corn-soya diet supplemented with each of reserpine, hydroxyzine and chlorpromazine at 0.25, 0.50 and 1.00 ppm levels. The parameters of growth performance were recorded. Main results obtained were as follows :
- supplementation of the basal diet with different levels of reserpine, hydroxyzine and chlorpromazine caused a significant increase in final body weight and body weight gain and improved feed conversation for both broiler chicks and Gimmizah chicks.
- Addition of tranquilizers to the basal diet decreased body temperature and mortality percentage. Also, the treatment increased respiratory rate.
- The results showed that reserpine was more effective than hydroxyzine and chlorpromazine in promoting growth and reducing mortality rate.
- Chicks fed on diet supplemented with 0.50ppm reserpine gave the best values in growth performance parameters than other levels of reserpine hydroxyzine and chlorpromazine.
