Haemophilus somnus infection as an aetiological agent for reproductive disorders in cows and buffaloes
Abstract |
Haemophilus somus (H.somnus) was recovered from 26 (5.83%) of 446 cows and 5 (1.74%) of 286 buffaloes showing different reproductive disorders. Identification of H. Somnus was based on morphological, cultural characteristics and biochemical tests. All isolates were oxidase positive, glucose fermenters, reduced nitrate and variable in catalase test. H. Somnus isolates were subjected to an antibiogra study and found to be sensitive to most antimicrobial agents. Serological examination of animals revealed the presence of agglutination titres ranging between 1: 25 and 1:800 against H. somnus antigen in 393 (85.3%) out of 472 serum samples of cows and buffaloes.
