Abstract It was of interest to study the effect of tetanus toxoid (TT) on the immune response of cattle to the locally produced inactivated cell culture bovine ephemeral fever vaccine five groups of cattle; free from bovine ephemeral fever (BEF) and tetanus antibodies (3animals group) were subjected to such investigation where the first group received 2 doses of BEF vaccine (2ml/animal) only 2 weeks apart; the 2nd group inoculated with a dose of tetanus toxoid (30LF/animal) followed by one dose of BEF vaccine after one week; the 3rd group was vaccinated simultaneously with BEF vaccine and tetanus toxoid; the 4th group was vaccinated with BEF vaccine and after one week received a dose of TT; while the 5th group was kept without vaccination as control. Serological tests including serum neutralization test (SNT) and Enzyme linked immune sorbant assay (ELISA) revealed that all vaccinated animals exhibited specific detectable antibodies against BEF and tetanus after week post vaccination recording beak titers by the 3rd -4th week post vaccination. Although, cattle that received TT, in either ways showed higher levels of BEF neutralizing antibodies (128) than those vaccinated with BEF vaccine alone (64) with the highest BEF neutralizing antibodies (256) in case of simultaneous vaccination with BEF vaccine and TT while ELISA titers were 1.45; 1.75 and 1.88 respectively. In addition it was found that BEF vaccine did not affect the immune response of cattle to TT. It is concluded that TT enhance the immune response of cattle to the inactivated BEF vaccine in addition to immunize them against tetanus.
