Isolation and identification of fmd virus in clinical samples from Ismaelia and Monofia governorates in egypt during year 2000

Abstract |
The veterinary anthorities notified to foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) Department (Veterinary serum and vaccine research institute) that clinical signs of FMD in cattle and sheep were suspected in ismaelia and Monofia Governorates. The signs were in a form of rise in temperature, profuse salivation, vesicular lesions at tongue and foot epithelia and lameness in 80 cattle and buffaloes out of 815 (415 in ismaelia and400 in Monofia Governorates) in sheep the signs were showed by rise in temperature, iameness and abortion in some pregnant ewes, forty two samples of epithelial tongue and 66 sera sample had been taken from clinically suspected cattle and buffaloes; besides 50 sera sample from sheep. The samples were diagnosed to be FMD by RT- PCR and confirmed to be type O1 by CFT and ELISA.
