English : Incidence and plasmid analysis of salmonella strains isolated from different poultry farms in Egypt
Arabic : نسب التواجد و التحليل البلازميدي لعترات السالمونيلا المعزولة من مزارع الدواجن المختلفة في مصر
Abstract In a study for one year, a total of one hundred and ninety – six avian flocks of different poultry species in different governorates of Egypt, were examined for salmonella. The incidences of Salmonella isolation from hatcheries, commercial broilers flocks, layers and broilers breeders flocks were 0.26 %, 2.89 %, 6.38% and 28.57% respectively. Meanwhile, the incidences of serological reactors of the same flocks reached 10.14 %, 12.76% , and 28.57% respectively. Isolation from commercial turkeys, ducks and quails revealed an incidences of 35.71%, 16.66% and 25% respectively. Twenty-one Salmonella isolates out of the 24 isolates strains were typed as Salmonella entertidis, Salmonella typhirium. Salmonella Virginia, Samonella chester, Salmonella corvalis, Salmonella reading, Salmonella agona, Salmonella cerro and Salmonella risen while 3 isolates were untypable Plasmid analysis revealed that all serotypes carry different numbers of plasmids with variable molecular weights ranged from 759 to 21724 bp. Sensitivity tests of the isolated serovars revealed multi-resistant to more than one of the tested antibiotics. Virulence testing in both one-day old chicks and mice were fully discussed. Plasmid profiling of Salmonella strains may not be an adequate way for identifying clones and Salmonella virulence is not depending on the number of plasmids carried by certain strain but may be associated with the presence of certain virulence genes carried on their plasmids in association to other virulence factors.
