Abstract |
In the present study, two live attenuated strains of rabies virus (Flury, High Egg Passage HEP and ERA) were used to vaccinate camels, goats and horses. The two vaccines were found to be safe and immunogenic for guinea pigs before their application for vaccination of farm animals.
The Flury strain had a titre of 104 MLD50 / ml while era strain had a titre of 104 TCID50 / ml. the used doses of HEP vaccine were 3 ml for goats and 4 ml for camels and horses given insteamuscuscularly. The same doses of ERA vaccine were used for each animal species, respectively. The 2 vaccines were found to be safe for all animal.
Serum neutralization test and ELISA showed that the protective antibodies began to appear in the sera of vaccinated animals from the first week post vaccination recoding a peak titre by the 4-5th week. The level of antibodies was still constant upto 1 year (the period of experiment) post vaccination. Animal response was the same to both of HEP and ERA vaccines
