English : SOME HAEMATOLOGICAL; BIOCHEMICAL AND HORMONAL CHANGES INSHE-CAMELS DURING THE POSTPARTUM PERIOD
Abstract ABSTRACT: This study were carried on twelve healthy recently calved she- camels to investigate some haematological , biochemical and hormonal changes as well as some important elements during the postpartum period (the first 2 months after parturition). Blood samples were collected during the last week before parturition and immedietly after parturition (1st day), 3rd day and then weekly till the 8th week postpartum. Haematological values observed before and after parturition revealed significant decrease during the postpartum period (P < 0.01) in overall means of Hb content (14.1±0.7 vs 12.6±0.24 respectively) and PCV (30.5± 1.65 vs 24.7±0.71 respectively) , while a significant increase was recorded in overall mean of erythrocytic count (6.4±0.6 vs 9.31±0.45 respectively - P < 0.01) during the postpartum . Meanwhile, non significant increase was noticed in the overall mean of leucocytic count. Differential leucocytic count revealed a significant increase in overall mean of neutrophils (71.3±1.87 vs 78.34±1.56 respectively - P<0.01) and immature neutrophils (1.11±0.27 vs 1.66±0.32 respectively - P< 0.05) while a significant decrease in the overall mean of lymphocytes was recorded (17.8±1.97 vs 12.1 ±1.14 respectively - P 0.01), monocytes and eosinophils showing non-significant differences. Plasma levels^ of Ca, P, Na and K were determined. The results revealed a significant decrease (10.6±0.7 vs 9.2±0.2 respectively'- P < 0.01) in the overall mean of calcium after parturition. Meanwhile, inorganic phosphorus, sodium and potassium did not significantly differ during'the postpartum period. After parturition, Estradiol 17B levels declined suddenly during the first day, then gradually till the fourth week when it started to rise again. Progesterone levels remained low during the entire period of study. The highest level of cortisol was observed on the day parturition (30±3.7ng/ml) followed by a decline to basel levels after end of the first week.
