ABSTRACT:
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of under-nutrition on body weight and condition score of ewes, lambs birth weight and serum biochemical parameters. Twenty adult, healthy Barki ewes 3-5 years old and 50-60 kg body weight divided into 2 equal groups, the first was fed on hay only at late pregnancy till the parturition. The second one (control group) was fed on concentrates all over the pregnancy period. Blood samples were collected weekly all over the exprimental period. The results revealed, significant decrease in body weight, condition score and lambs birth weight in underfed group. There was a significant decrease of total lipids, Cholesterol, Glucose, total proteins, albumin, globulin and A/G ratio as well as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and sodium while progesterone and Cortisol levels were significantly increased in the underfed animals compared with the control group.
