English : MONITORING THE OVARIAN FUNCTION IN THE DROMEDARY CAMEL DURING THE NON-RUTTING SEASOI
Abstract SUMMARY This experiment was conducted during the non-rutting season (July to August 2004) on young (3-4 years old), post partum (2-3 months post partum, 8-10 years old) and early preg¬nant in dromedary camel. Ovarian function and pregnancy diagnosis were observed using real-time transrectal ultrasound scanning. Results indicated that in both young and post partum she-camel, ovarian function and follicular development continue during the non-rutting season. Mature >=1cm follicles were detected on both ovaries (2.42 ± 0.43 and 2.33 ± 0.27 follicles were detected in premature and post partum she-cael, respectively). The average diameter of follicles averaged 1.98 ± 0.35 and 2.35 and 2.33 ± 0.27 cm in young and post partum she-camel, respectively. The diameter of mature corpus luteum on the 3rd month of pregnancy was 2.47 cm. Cor¬pus luteum was hyperechogenic and round in shape with central hypcrcchogenic line indi¬cating previous clotting. In conclusion, these results indicated that in young and post partum she-camel follicular development was active during the non rutting season. Ultrasound scan¬ning is bencficiul for diagnosis of early pregnancy in dromedary camel.
