English : Dcrmatophytosis in Fccdlot Calves: A Study on the Effectiveness of Different Antifungal Agents
Abstract Abstract Trichophyton vcrrucosum was the most encountered species of pathogenic fungi among fattening feedlot calves (82.2% of the examined cases). Trichophyton mentagrophytes was 7.8%, while the dual infections comprising of the two species was 10%. No other species could be isolated. Different types of antifungal remedies including griseofulvin, ketoconazole, clotrimazole, chlorhexidine, povidone-iodine, lime-sulphur solution, sodium hypochlorite solution and vinegar 4% solution were used. Each agent was tested for cure effectiveness, side effects, and feasibility. Vinegar 4 % solution was superior to other agents due to its effectiveness and absence of side effects. In addition, vinegar is cheap and readily available.
