English : Endometritis and Subclinical Mastitis Syndrome in Ewes
Abstract SUMMARY A total of 120 milk samples of half udder and 60 cervical swabs were collected from lactating ewes suffering from repeat breeding and decreased milk yield at a private farm in Egypt. Milk samples were collected for bacteriological examination, California Mastitis Test (CMT), Somatic Cell Count (SCC) and cervical swabs for bacteriological examination. The prevalence of Endometritis and Subclinical Intra-Mammary Infection (IMF.) of milk samples were 91.7% and 41.7% respectively. S. aureus was the most prevalent organisms in both cases (41.7% and 18.3% respectively) followed by E. coli (26.7% and 9.2%, Str. agalactiae 16.6% and 4.2%) while Coagulase Negative Staphylococci (CNS) were 6.7% and 10% respectively. There is a good correlation between CMT and SCC according to the infectious status of the mammary halves of the examined ewes. In the absence of infection, CMT score was negative and the SCC ranged from 5-164 x 103 cells/ml. with arithmetic mean 19.5 x 103 cells/ml. In case of infection with minor pathogens, CMT score was ++ and SCC ranged from 200-239 xlO3 cells/ml. with arithmetic mean 279 xlO3 cells/ml. While with the major pathogen, the CMT score was +++ and SCC ranged from 494-2277 xlO3 cells/ml. with arithmetic mean 1529.6 xlO3 cells/ml. All cases of endometritis were treated using synolux and were subjected to breeding via natural service and examined for pregnancy after two months, 55 out of 60 (91.7%) WERE pregnant also, at the same time all subclinical mastitic cases became cured and got helathy after treatment.
