English : Effect of Chromium Oxide Supplementation on Some Chemical Metabolites and Hormones of Late Pregnant Buffaloes
Abstract SUMMARY: The effect of supplemental chromium oxide on some chemical metabolites and hormones were evaluated in 10 pregnant buffaloes reared in Animal reproduction Research Institute. The buffaloes were at 7 month of pregnancy, in average, before treatment. 0.2 mg chromium oxide /kgm dry matter was given orally for one month. Chromium supplementation significantly increased serum glucose, plamitic, oleic and linoleic Concentrations and decreased serum cholesterol concentration indicating that carbohydrate and lipid metabolism influenced by Cr supplementation. Also serum globulins, copper, and total antioxidant activity were significantly increased meaning an improved antioxidant status of buffaloes. Serum progesterone and insulin concentrations were significantly increased by Cr supplementation that revealed an improved in the endocrine status of animals. These data indicate that dietary Cr supplement could be beneficial for the health of pregnancy in buffaloes
