English : Physiopathological Effect of E. Coli Endotoxin on Reproductive Performance of Rams
Abstract SUMMARY: This study was carried out to investigate the physiopathological changes due to Escher-ishia coli endotoxin serotype 055:B5 on the reproductive functions of adult rams. Experimental rams were classified into 2 groups, group I and II were injected intrave¬nously with two doses (4 or 6 ug/kg B.wt, respectively) of E. coli endotoxin 055:B5. The regimen of the injection was described fully. Semen and blood samples were collected peri¬odically to evaluate the changes in them. Moreover, the reproductive organs were collected and examined macro- and microscopically. Semen characters were affected extremely. Sperm individual motility and sperm live/ dead ration were significantly reduced. Meanwhile, the sperm cell abnormalities and sperm acrosomal abnormalities were significantly increased. Moreover, seminal AST enzyme was elevated significantly. Also, seminal fructose level was greatly reduced specially during 15th (129.42mg%) and 45th (179.57mg%) days post injection of E.coli endotoxin than be¬fore injection (control period) (239.45mg%). Blood parameters were also disturbed, the tes¬tosterone level in blood serum was increased. The total leucocytic count was greatly de¬creased. The histopathological examination revealed severe testicular, epididymal and seminal vesicle degeneration. Key word: Rams, Semen, Endotoxin, Reproductive organs and Testosterone.
