Estrus Synchronization in Barky Ewes Treated with Sponges Impregnated with Different Doses of Medroxy Progesterone Acetate (Map) and Gnrh

| Abstract |
SUMMARY:
Three groups of normally cycling barky ewes (each containing 5 ewes) were included in the experiment. Vaginal sponges impregnated with medroxy progesterone acetate (MAP) at different concentrations (20,30 or 40 mg / sponge)were inserted for each group as one sponge / ewe and kept for 14 days . One day after removal of sponges, each ewe was I/M in¬jected with 100µg of GnRH analogue.
All ewes showed estrus with no significant difference in between while, the real and ab¬sorbed amount of MAP of each group showed significance (p<0.01). There was no signifi¬cant difference in the residues between all groups. The number of follicles had a positive correlation with increasing the dose of MAP, while the size of the follicles consequently de¬creased.
The present study recommends the use of small doses of progestin in case of the vaginal sponges (20 or 30 mg) to avoid impairment the fertility of the ewes, in addition to GnRH as a source of gonadotrophin enhance ovulation.
