Abstract |
Kelthane is an organochlorine acaricide which is commonly used for thc management of spider mites. It is highly toxic to aquatic life and there are many reports regarding resistance of the miles to it. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the possible combination of Kelthane with olher biorational acaricides including Spinosad (Actinomycete) and Abamectin (Streptomyces) in controlling the two-spotted spider miles. The Direct and indirect toxicity tests (Spraying and Leaf-disk dipping techniques, respectively) including adulticide and ovicide bioassays were performed on a laboratory susceptible strain. Mites were reared on sweet potato leaves and the leaf disks were then treated with five rates of Kelthane (20, 40, 60, 80 and 100ppm), Kelthane combined with Spinosad or Abamectin or water as control. Combination of Kelthane with Abameclin showed a promising response, however, its combination with Spinosad showed no significant difference compared to Kelthane alone. Using the indirect toxicity test, combination of Kellhane with Abamectin resulled in high mortalily rales of adult compared to Kelthane. In addition, all larvae did not turn into nymphs and died after combined treatment, while turned into nymphs after treatlmentl with Kelthane alone. In conclusion, a combination between organochlorine and biorational acaricides may increase their efficacy in controlling such pest.
